It is with great sadness and regret that I have to tell you that the WACtheatre team have decided to cease all future productions, including WAC Wednesdays and other workshops.

Everything we’ve done since our New Play Season started in November 2008 has been on the back of our original ACC funding: each of the performances in the first season gave us more cash to be able to produce yet more performances, but of course eventually we were always going to run out of money. Over the last couple of years we’ve done a great many funding and project applications that have all been turned down. Our last couple of planned projects (head5pace and the Scottish Mental Health Arts &Film Festival) have once again failed to achieve any funding.

We have all put a tremendous amount of time, energy and money into WAC since we started: WAC have produced 20 new plays, given opportunities to almost 100 actors, writers and directors, and facilitated workshops for actors and writers, as well as running community writing projects.

As Artistic Director of WACtheatre, my personal life has changed a lot and I no longer have the enthusiasm to continue trying to keep WAC afloat. Unfortunately, the rest of the team feel the same, and while we will no doubt work together again as individuals, it will not be under the banner of WACtheatre.

I’m eternally grateful to everyone who has taken part, supported and encouraged us over the years: from my original co-founders Liz Lees and Susanne Enoch, to the current team of Jessica, Louise and Angela. Jessica especially has been a tower of strength and without her support I’d have thrown in the towel long ago. For all of us, time is too precious now and we’re not prepared to continue struggling to get funding in the current economic climate.

I will continue to monitor emails etc and pass on any information that seems useful. The website will be updated to show information about all 20 of our productions and will continue to run until the current subscription for web hosting/domain names runs out. Any monies left will be donated to charity.
